A
30 minute drive from Belize City along the Western Highway places
you at the Foothills of the Maya Mountains. The village of Gracie
Rock is the hub of today's tour and here we give out helmets
(locally supplied) and select our mountain bike. The surrounding
hills provide many trails of varying slopes, which are combined with
sections of unpaved narrow roads, to offer a variety of challenges.
Some of the trails were originally used by mahogany cutters to the
extract the logs that were felled many
years ago. Several of the trails provide access to cave systems,
where large Maya pots and vessels are located. The rainforest
through trails meander will supply a variety of flora and fauna, and
add to your experience. After pumping the pedals for two or three
hours, lunch and refreshments are provided back at our based camp in
the village of Gracie Rock |
