NIGHT SNORKEL
     Departs at 5:15 PM and Returns at 7:30 PM
Did you know that 80% of the marine life is nocturnal? Come with us and explore the reef at night. An experienced snorkel guide will lead you around and show you sleeping parrotfish, lobsters, moray eels. There is also a very good chance to see octopus and sea horse. The trip leaves at the dive shop approximately 5:15 PM and should return at approximately 7:30 PM, still in time for dinner. The underwater rental flashlights are available at the dive shop. The Night Snorkel is done in the channel of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. The marine reserve already is host to an abundance of marine life during the daytime but you will see even more at night because all the nocturnal species come out. Things you won’t normally see in the daytime like shrimps, lobsters walking around, parrot fish in their cocoons, basket stars, octopus, lemon or hammerhead sharks, dozens of sting rays You can see the green and spotted eels swimming through the cracks and crevices between the corals and if they come upon anything they can swallow, (mostly small parrot fish, blue tangs, and sergeant majors) it’s a show to see how they eat them. At night, the coral puts out its polyps so it can feed too. The tiny blood worms that usually cluster around your dive light will be consumed by the corals if you put the light near them.
